Surprise!

In my best Gomer Pyle voice, "Surprise surprise surprise!"  I know, a post before Friday!?! Cray I know. It's six something in the morning and I thought, why not?

Not that I have anything exciting to share. Nope. Work is kicking my butt. I'm trying to learn how to cook pintos. I hopefully see a doc tomorrow (the first appt I could get with the man was Nov 5 so let's see if I can get a work-in).  Life is still zooming by at alarming speeds while standing still.

Did I post pics of my cleaned up dining room? My goal is to put dishes on the table in an effort to not put other crap on the table. So far it's working. The dishes are mismatched Made in Occupied Japan. The problem is keeping Macy's fingers off of them.

I often complain of people who present their life as perfect. So as you can see here, mine isn't. This is standing in my dining room looking at the living room. Yup a mess. Oh well the dining room is pretty :)

Sunday I didn't get to see Macy at all. I asked my sister for a photo and this is what I got. Love it! Fresh from her bath, wet curly hair everywhere, exploring her world. Those big blue eyes still surprise me. Her daddy has brown, mom green. But blue eyes run in both mom and dads families.

Work is still draining my energy but it isn't as bad as it's going to get. I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving this year - down time with family and thanking God for so many blessings my family has received this year. So very many.

So there are my ramblings before seven on a Tuesday morning. :)  I need to get moving, go snuggle with Macy and get to work. I hope your weeks are going wonderfully well!  :)

Monday Muse.

Have you noticed that those things that annoy the HECK out of you are things that usually show up in yourself?  No really, I've heard that a million times, but this weekend I was grousing in my head about someone and their tendency to do XYZ.

Then I realized, oh...well, I've done that, too, but it was different when I did because... ABC. As I continued to the grousing and justification, I just had to laugh before it was all over. Because what I had done and what this other person had done really aren't different at all. No way to justify.

Isn't it interesting when you come to a realization like this? Yeah...

----------------

I discovered this weekend why movie theaters shouldn't sell beer.  Drunk people in movies are funny but distracting. But again, they are funny.

----------------

Sadly, that same night, I overheard our waitress tell someone she thinks her kids should only have to go to school for six months. It wasn't fair them going to school for nine and then off for only 2.5.  I'm not sure where the other half month went, ... holidays?

----------------

This sweet baby girl went on vacay with her family this weekend - I haven't seen her since THURSDAY! This is totally unacceptable. Can't wait to get home and snuggle on her tonight.

Ok folks, there are your Monday Muses.  I hope your week is FABULOUS! :)

Monday Muse.

I've been having all these conversations with myself lately - so here, enjoy the depths of my mind.

  • Why aren't people open to making new friends? I'm baffled by this. I've met people here online and in person at various places and thought to myself - they are pretty cool! I'd like to get to know them better and become friends! But you can tell they are shut off totally from opening up to new people. Not Interested in the least. I really don't understand that at all.
  • A dear friend is struggling with having to put her pet down.  As you very well know if you read here much, this was one of the toughest things I've ever had to do. So my heart is aching for her right now.
  • Another friend struggled with coworkers who were ALWAYS late everyday. And here she is working her full eight hours while someone else is stealing time off the clock. We all have worked with this type of person at one time or another. She is very wise, she finally realized she agreed to a certain wage for a certain amount of time. Her responsiblity was to keep up her end of the bargin. This other coworker wasn't her responsibility.  AMEN. What a wise person my friend is, right? It's hard to do, but the coworker will have to live with her decisions and we must live with ours.
  • Why can't I get motivated to lose weight? I want to. I need to. But I have not managed to push myself off the couch yet.  Hmm... I've got to find that thing that encourages me to MOVE IT! Stay tuned on this.
So yeah, I think that's where my mind is at from this weekend.  I did some more work on Pressed Clovers but for some reason I wasn't happy with my work.  I ended up putting it down and will come back to it later this week.  Pressed Clovers is very important to me so I want to feel good about what I'm putting out there.  So putting it down for a day was just a better move, I think.

Ok ya'll, go have a great week! :)

Letters of Love to Strangers.

As ya'll have known, because I keep telling you (haha), I've been a bit down after the passing of my sidekick, Muffin.  We've had a bit of a rough year in my family... maybe more like a year-and-a-half to two years, and after a while you just get worn down. And yes, I'm focusing on the drama instead of all the triumphs and highlights we've seen, because we've had a lot of these, too!

Anyway, I joined this group that writes "love letters" to people, flooding a person with well wishes and good thoughts when they are at their lowest.  I mean, these people have seen so much more than me and are trying to come out the other side.  Cancer survivors, divorce, loss of loved ones, raising kids and juggling jobs. Someone who loves them requests for them to receive random letters of love from strangers.

I have only written to one guy - a fellow battling cancer who just touched my heart.  But this week I sat down and wrote to several of these people.  Courage was one word that came to mind as a single mother, recently divorced, cancer survivor, mom to twins, she's just trying to get life back together around her.  She's courageous. And she'll come out ok, she just needs someone to tell her that.

I wrote another - Light was my word for him - a preacher who as ALS and, as his daughter put it, has written love letters to his church for 30+ years in the form of sermons.  I was overcome with the realization that God is still using his life to touch others, hundreds, maybe thousands of others in the way of this group that sends random love letters.  How amazing is that?!

The interesting this is that as I write these letters to people who are down and out, it's only lifting my spirits to share with them how awesome and inspiring they are to me! It's a rush, a high, a great feeling to share with someone else how wonderful they are. And I've never met them.

If you are curious, you can check out the More Love Letters page and see the letter requests.  The cool thing is you don't have to wax poetic. You can sound a bit like a fool. It's ok. They don't know who you are and you'll never meet them. But whatever you tell them, they'll be grateful. I imagine this person on the other end just marveling at how many people sent a piece of themselves in this envelope just because they care about a stranger. I don't know, it's cool to me.

So there. There is your Tuesday inspiration from Whiskey Tango Hello. haha.  Now I'm off to dinner with a good friend and maybe on the way I'll think about what to write to you tomorrow. :)

Magic Bullet Bliss?

Dad gave me a Magic Bullet last night. You know, those things that are advertised on TV as being the answer to your culinary dreams?  Yeah, that one.

He's had it forever at his house and told me to take it home, but the color coded rims on the mugs were just so freakin' cheesy, I resisted.  Last night, I finally brought it home, mainly because I want to try my hand at smoothies.  I've gotten so many berries from my Community Support Agriculture box that I have a freezer full.

Yes, this sucker comes with a recipe book, but you know me better than that and you KNOW I had to look online for a million recipes.  How cool is it that I found THIS: A blog dedicated to Magic Bullet Recipes! No way, right? WAY!! All kinds of crazy and hopefully tasty recipes for the Magic Bullet!

I'm hoping this is something I'll use frequently for healthier alternatives to my weekly menus.  Living alone, it's tough to make something just for one.  Maybe this will help? I'll let you know.

Do you have any suggestions for 1) recipes for one or 2) recipes for this new toy of mine? Lemme know, please!

Every Day in May: I'm Sorry.

Dear Universe, Please accept my heartfelt apology.

I'm sorry for the horrible 80's hair that I sported as a tween. Yes, I know, I wasn't the only one, but I will apologize on my behalf for something so scary. (Should I also apologize for the glasses?) The fact I resemble a poodle in this picture is frightening. Complete with bow.

How cool is this? Find it here.
I apologize for all the water I use on hot baths.  And I apologize for the insanely long showers I took all through high school and college.  Not saying I won't continue surviving with the help of hot water and bubbles, just apologizing for it both in the past and future tense.

I deeply apologize for the things we do to our cats. And the ridiculous number of pictures we take of them and post online to torture other people with because we think they are cute.

I'm sorry, Universe. Please forgive?

Every Day in May

Can I seriously blog every stinkin' day in the month of May? and do I really want to? Hm... well, I'm going to try.  I don't know what I'll talk about every day, but join me for the ride and let's see what happens.

I had this really good chat with my brother today.  He's older by four years, been married 9 years in June and he's typically very funny. It's rare you'll get him serious. Not sure how we started talking about the fact that I'm single, but he said this - he couldn't imagine his life without his wife. Not that she's perfect or he's perfect, not that they don't have things they fight about or whatever, but that together they are it. And I totally agree, together they are one unit in life. And he said he really wanted that for me, too.

*sigh*

I do, too.  (He cracked me up when he said - something better than the last two I had in my life. HAHAHA! Ok, I totally agree!) I'm old ya'll, I'll be 38 this year and I get so sick of the "if-she-isn't-married-by-now-there-must-be-something-wrong-with-her" joke (I guess it would be better if I were divorced??). I don't want to date random guys and go through the whole let's-get-to-know-you routine. I don't want a honeymoon stage that leads to daydreams only to be let down after 3-6 months.

What do I want? Heck, I don't really know that. I guess I'm better at saying what I don't want. HA! But I really don't want to make a mistake.

Seriously, I'll let you in on a secret. While I love seeing all of you in the big puffy wedding gowns for your profile pics, and while I love seeing everyone's tummies growing with their children, sometimes it makes me sad. I know your life isn't perfect. But it's the path I thought I would be taking only to find out that wasn't the plan for me.

Many a person has told me they envy what I have in being single and on my own. I have a good life. I like my freedom.  Not sure how I'd take having to give it up one day and accommodate someone else's feelings, needs, wants, etc. because I'm kinda used to doing whatever I want to do without consulting anyone else. But maybe one day someone will change that... Guess I'll just have to wait and see what God has in store for me.

Friday's Letters

Is it Friday already!? Wow, the weeks of Spring are flying by and we'll be complaining about the heat of Summer soon.

Dear Muffin, sweet kitty, I'm soooo sorry. I know you are an older kitty but I never imagined you would slip and fall into the tub this morning! I did hop out and chase you around the house until I caught you, then I dried you off.  On a funny note, I did get a free mop job out of it. ... ....

Dear Office Depot, I love your store, truly. Enough to mention it on Twitter and gain a reply from you. However, if you don't get this crap straightened out with my Work Rewards or whatever... I'm going to get grouchy. I'm talking about $40 here, so get it worked out. Seriously.

Dear pollen, I love you in the form of honey. I hate you in the form of yellow/green powder that coats my car and makes me miserable.

Dear Pintrest, you are so evil for introducing me to these types of projects, like I have time to be making these things! But oh, how I love to browse you and day dream.

This however, is one of those things I pinned and made. OH MY GOSH, so tasty. Try it here.

Dear Dropbox, you are making me very happy. I love saving my pics to your site from my phone and then accessing them on my computer at work. Seriously, so easy. Check it out. And I love that you are free, because I'm broke. :) And Katie loves logging in and snagging the latest pic of sweet niece. :)

Ok, I'm off to enjoy my weekend. Not sure what I'm getting into but I'll talk your ears off about it later this weekend/next week.  You know I will.  Have a great one and go check out the other letters! Well, nevermind it doesn't seem to be up this week. Go check out Ashley's page anyway!

Poor Baby Girl

Sweet baby girl has been sick this week.  This was taken on Sunday on the way to church, when we thought she was just sleepy.  When we picked her up from nursery, she was burning up.  Poor thing hasn't felt well all this week.  You can see how pitiful she looks. :(  Thankfully, her fever has broken but she just won't sleep.  But she HATES to sleep.  Any suggestions? We'd appreciate it.

My rose bush is on the brink of exploding into blooms! So excited! I trimmed them back from being about 6 feet tall to about 4 feet... I meant to go back and whack off another 2 feet and it just didn't happen.  Now I don't want to cut off the blooms, so I'm just going to hang tight for a while. :)  Althought it's looking like Spring, the temps are dropping this weekend (again!) to a high of 59! What the heck? I just don't understand this psycho weather. I wish someone would give Mother Nature a Midol and ask her to chill out.

I had to share this picture of my cousin at a family birthday party this weekend.  This dish was one step larger than the "FEAST" on the menu - it included scallops, I believe. Is that not a hoot? I thought Feast was a great name for it.  She sent most of it home with her parents for them to munch on in the upcoming week.

She's so photogentic. You should see her wedding pictures from way back when - she's just one of those people that always photographs good. I am not. I generally look like poop on a stick. Maybe I should learn to wear make up.

Anyway - I'm heading home to check out my "Pinned it, Did it" BBQ Beef. I'll let you know how it turns out. :)

Night!

Spring Cleaning

Let's all celebrate together the fact I no longer have two Christmas trees decorating my home, Santa is off the back of the toilet and the Christmas china is packed away. Hooray!

This week is Spring Break for the schools here, which means I have two sweet nieces and a sister who want to play! I took three days off from work to get serious cleaning done in the house, hopefully sew some, and play with the family!

Although I haven't started on the sweeping, dusting, mopping, I did CLEAN OUT. I have a very small home, less than 1000 sq. ft., so I have to be smart about my space. All of that above has to leave my house. Another four bags of trash items and I'm finally seeing some extra space.

In putting away Christmas and redecorating for Spring, I'm finding items I love all over again.

This is the birth announcements I made for sweet niece two. The bootie is ceramic we did at one of those paint your own pottery places. All her info is written around the base and her footprint on the bottom.

We got two booties for about $20 and mom and I split the pair so we'd both have one.

These pottery pieces with lids I use a lot to take foods over to mom and dad's. Although, I have a sturdier, less decorated one I use more frequently. I take this one to family reunions to look all fancy. Ha ha!

You may know I live in my Great Grandmother's home and this rooster belonged to her. It has seen better days, but I'm sure it has stories to tell.

And this creamer and sugar set... This is the reason I decided to spring clean. Mom gave these to me for my housewarming just over two years ago. I put them up to decorate for Christmas about two months later and have been searching for them since. It took digging through 21 boxes before I found them... But here they are! I'm so thankful to have them back on display. They are by Grasslands Road, one of my favorite designers of ceramics like this. :)

Ok so now that you've walked down memory lane with me, I suppose I should start my day. The house it still turned upside down and I still want to learn how to use my machine. Have a lovely Thursday!

Note to Self: #1

Dear Self,

I was thinking back and reliving some old memories about you the other day.  My my how you have changed over the years.  Back in high school, you were a skinny hyper and probably manic teenager with no direction.  Although you thought you were presenting yourself as endlessly happy, the older me is realizing you didn't actually come across that way.  I think it was that whole temper thing or the boyfriend drama that possibly ruined the facade.

Anyway, fast-forward to the you that was about 10 years ago or so... maybe a few years less but I'm too lazy to do the actual math when it doesn't matter.  That you, wow... that you had some brass ones and some big ol' butt kickin' boots.  Whoa Nelly, you were bad to the bone. The older me is thinking it may have been the issue of feeling like a doormat in the relationship and then it carried over into the workplace, where you were also feeling like a doormat. So, you put on your boxing gloves and went to town. *sigh* Those were some rough days, but girl, I gotta give you credit - you learned how to fight.

In thinking about the me of today, I feel like I'm a lot more laid-back.  Maybe it's the massive weight-gain since high school that has sapped my hyper tendencies. Maybe it's unloading the relationships that were making me feel backed into a corner.  Maybe it's just getting older.  The cool thing is I'm kinda ok where I'm at right now.  I probably shouldn't be... I should probably want to toss aside this feeling of life being a comfy old t-shirt that's been washed too many times and is now soft as butter. Maybe I do need to get that scratchy old sweater life out of the closet and bare my teeth a little more than I do. Get good and riled up and wanna fight again.

Eh. I feel like those drama-filled days will return soon enough. I think I'll wallow around in this comfy old t-shirt version of life a little bit longer.

Sincerely,

Me.

Funding Vacation Homes... among other things...

see the website here
How do you like the house my family purchased in the past two weeks? It's nice, isn't it? Too bad it's for the doctors and not for the family...

Seriously, I think with the four doctor visits my sister has had in the past week + the visit my mom will have tomorrow + the one Macy is going to have if she doesn't get over this cold = a new vacation home for the doctor!!

Strep, Flu, Virus, Thrush, Coughing, Hacking... it's really lovely between all the three houses. And we are all praying that Macy just has a cold and doesn't get anything more serious - like STREP! Please send up a prayer for her, too. Thanks.

So I cleaned out my car this week. I really should have taken before and after pictures because it was that bad.  I'm not sure what I have against taking my mail inside, but I found all kinds of unopened mail. Mostly junk mail.  A bottle of prescription medicine dating back to April 2012. Three more that I picked up last month.  Three jackets - one was my old letter jacket from high school (and I'm 37 now!)  A crockpot. Shoes shoes shoes. A full-sized George Foreman grill. A random large serving bowl in an everyday china pattern that involves giraffe print. My charger for the Garmin. The Garmin. Hot glue sticks. Country Dance for the Wii. A case of water. And just junk junk junk.  Now I need to vacuum. And stay a bit more organized!

I'm so excited, I've heard from both Cara Box partners for this month! The one I'm sending to and the one sending to me! I think this theme of finding things with the person's first name is going to be fun. I have a list of ideas already.

I'm also excited because I won a gift card to Whole Foods from Influenster last night! WHOO HOO!  I never win anything, but my tweets won me this!  I'm watching The Taste while tweeting like a mad woman with Influenster.  Although it's a show I might not watch initially, it's a lot of fun to join the tweeting party while watching!  And sometimes you WIN THINGS! So I'm totally psyched.  Basically, these chef contestants have been making themed dishes (last night was Seduction) and they have one spoonful of the dish to impress the judges.  Blindly the judges eat and rate - chefs go home and others move forward. Pretty cool so far.  I would love to have gotten a VoxBox last night, but maybe next time. (Check out Influenster to learn more about how this program works).

Ok, time to refocus energy on something else today...  ya'll have a good one!

Silly Insecurities

"I have learned to live each day as it comes, and not to borrow trouble by dreading tomorrow. It is the dark menace of the future that makes cowards of us."
Dorothy Dix

Ya'll, I totally psyched myself out this weekend. I can be very outgoing. But when I'm the odd man out, when everyone knows each other except me, I tend to become a wall flower.

Since my weekend plans were changed due to everyone being sick, I agreed to go to an event, a party of sorts, with a friend. When the day got here, I really didn't want to get off the couch. I knew no one would talk to me, I'd be left out, I would be undressed, people would wonder who I was and why I was there...I think you get the picture.

I just have to shake my head. Seriously, why do I do this to myself? While all the above was somewhat true, I had a good time visiting with my friend and an older guy that talked about wars all night. Even if I only visited with the friend I went with, it would have been fine. I enjoy catching up with him.

Good grief, I really got worked up about what to wear, should I take a gift, what will I do if no one talks to me, blah blah. So childish, these insecurities. Do we ever outgrow them? -sigh-

I can hear those words, Don't go borrowing trouble. I'm really good at borrowing trouble. Hee hee. But, I'm glad I had a good time and maybe learned a lesson?

How was your weekend?

Disturbing Trend

I was catching up on my blog reading when I ran across this blog entry, at Grits and Giggles.

It scared the poop out of me. I'm very open about my family, my life. I share photos of my baby niece, older niece, best friend's niece, church nursery children...I share. I love these children and to be honest, I just want to brag, show them off, share with you how adorable they are.

But this is the second time recently I've heard of photos being stolen. Once the photo ended up in a child porn site! And in the blogger above's case, someone used it to sell a product.

I want to snatch down every photo because that is down right scary. Oh my gracious, the thoughts of the babies I love ending up on a child porn site just because someone evil stole them from this site makes my blood boil.

What are your thoughts on this? Any suggestions?

My First Friday Confession

Ok, so I've seen Carrie do this confessionals one time too many for me not to want to join in! Does that sentence even make sense? Anyway, you get my drift.

I Confess:
  • I promised myself I would not become a link-up type of blogger. And I still hold to that promise, but sometimes, I just want to join the fun!
  • I spend way too much money on the sweetest baby niece in the world, and I just can't help it. I adore her and know she's growing up so quickly!
  • Umm...I've eaten about a million pieces of chocolate in the past three days.  DON'T JUDGE ME!
  • I'm ashamed. I took my car to be serviced before leaving on a road trip this weekend (that's been cancelled due to everyone being SICK in my family). Anyway, the guys took E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. out of my trunk to service the spare tire. I'm talking cases of water, a medium-sized heater, a large George Foreman grill, an everday china large serving bowl, numerous purses, shoes, scarves, backpacks, ... I think they charged me extra in labor. #fail - sorry guys!
I'm off to have a GREAT weekend, I am determined it will be awesome, beginning with a hot bath when I get home (oh please let this come true.. pretty please!).  Ya'll have a good one and link up your own confession with Aubrey at High-Heeled Love!

Why Am I Awake?

I'm sprawled out on the couch watching the Oscars, as if I care who wins what. I don't even know the majority of the actors, movies, etc! So why am I still sitting here instead of sleeping?

The only thing I can figure is
1) I have slept for three days straight. 11 hours a night and another 5+ hours during the day. This cold had kicked my butt.

2) I love tweeting about it as if I knew what I was talking about. Hee hee.

So here I am, watching these same four or so movies being cheered for over and over.

And I must be bored because I keep coming back to this one thought: I bet these people don't have to battle lady bugs in their houses...

How Was I Supposed To Know?

Donna and I headed to see Les Mis after a tasty dinner tonight. (note here about our size 0 waitress who kept saying she was fat and was going to the doctor. Really wanted to gag her, snatch her bald headed, you get the idea. Now I'll return you to the story.)

I loved the music of Les Mis in high school and really wanted to see it on the big screen. I knew it was long, I heard mixed reviews, but I rrreeeaaaallllllllyyy wanted to see it. So, how did I miss the entire storyline when I listened to this music 20 years ago, because I did NOT know it was sad. Dang, everyone and their uncle's cousin twice removed kicks it in this film! If I hadn't been with Donna, who I knew who laugh at me, I would have bawled! (My friend Emily pointed out the title should have given me a clue...)

Donna leaned over and said, are they singing through the whole movie? Yes and no... They are all singing except Russell Crowe, he is trying to sing...

So I now understand the music better and I'm not sure I love it quite as I did 20 years ago. It's so sad! But still good. Glad I watched it in the theater, otherwise I would have fast forwarded through some of the singing and missed the plot.

Ta DA! My review of Les Mis! Everyone dies and Russell can't sing. :)

Friday's Letter

Three generations of love in this picture! :)  Too adorable.

Dear Thickety Goodness aka Lizard's Thicket, thanks for being the great backdrop for a wonderful get together with Paulene. I know you were ready to pry my butt out of your booth after the multi-hour visit, but it was so worth it. Sorry. :)

Dear Whacked-Out Back, please keep improving. You were causing me some issues this weekend and it wasn't very fun. Be nice, please?

Dear Long Weekend, Thanks for being so productive. It was so totally awesome to get so much done - I felt accomplished. Yeah!

Dear Icy Conditions, Please go away. I'm not a fan of yours. 20 accidents in my county right at this moment? Seriously? We are kinda rural around here, so this isn't sounding very good. And I didn't buy any milk. (although, why bother, if the power goes out, what am I going to do - cry over spoiled milk? HAHAHA... OK, maybe not so funny...)

Dear Sara & Elizabeth - YAY! I'm so excited we had lunch together! YAYYAYAYAY! And I'm tickled to have had dinner last night with you, Sara. And to see how tickled you were to receive a Southern Church Lady Cookbook, that made me laugh. Can't wait to see what you cook up!

Ja'Bria Barber, you have my vote on Idol all the way.  Being a hometown girl, I'm backing you. So excited to see you represent the hometown so well and your voice is awesome. GO GIRL!

Dear Peeps, if you have Facebook, please consider finding Pressed Clovers and liking my page! :)  Many many thank yous! :)

Now go link yourself up with Ashleigh!

Letters of Love.

If you've been here for a while, you know one of my loves is to write letters. Handwritten letters are just one of those things you carry around in your purse because the person who wrote it cares enough about you to WRITE a letter. I know, it's amazing.

Imagine my joy when I discovered this website where you write letters of love to random people. No seriously, it's awesome. LOVE this concept.

So there is a ... group? Website? Bunch of loopy people like me? who can submit a person they know who needs a love letter. And the rest of us loopy people will write letters to this person!  Letters of support, of understanding, of encouragement, whatever is needed.

You don't actually get their name and address - you send it safely to this group's address and do not include your own contact information. But you do know enough about the person to feel like you can reasonably write a letter for them.

I know, it sounds crazy. But I can think of people in my circle who have had times where a letter from someone saying - I understand, been there done that, burned my t-shirt and look, I managed to come out on the other side - it would have made a difference.

I don't know, I'm going to try it. I've signed up and I'll let you know what I think about it. :)

My secret addiction

Is anyone else out there as addicted to Downton Abbey as I am? Oh my gosh I love this show! Just watched a marathon and would gladly watch it all over again! Can't wait, season three starts in January. Go outside right now and you'll hear me squealing! Yay!
